A reckless driver led police on multiple vehicle chases Thursday before he was tased and apprehended in the parking lot of Old Navy in Bluffton, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report.
The Sheriff’s Office first received a call about a reckless driver on William Hilton Parkway about 9:30 a.m.,the report states. A deputy in the area soon spotted the black Chevrolet Tahoe when it pulled up behind his patrol car sitting in the median near The Crazy Crab.
After a brief pause the vehicle, which lacked license plates, entered back into traffic recklessly at a high speed, the report states. The deputy followed pursuit and tried to stop the vehicle.
The vehicle failed to stop but instead drove through a grass median cutting off oncoming eastbound traffic in the process, the report states. Due to the abrupt stop of traffic the deputy took a moment to make sure no accidents occurred and lost the suspect in the process.
About an hour later the deputy once again spotted the vehicle driving recklessly, which included switching lanes without a turn signal down William Hilton Parkway, the report states. Once the driver spotted the deputy, he again waited until there was a large amount of traffic before making another u-turn in front of them.
Multiple Beaufort County Sheriff’s Officers followed the vehicle until it came to a stop in the Old Navy parking lot in Bluffton where the driver exited the vehicle.
The report states the driver failed to follow commands to get on the ground. It states he began to yell and take aggressive stances toward deputies.
After multiple attempts to calm the driver the man was tased and arrested, the report states.
The driver was charged with reckless driving and no license plate being displayed, the report says.
