A Bluffton home suffered heavy damage Wednesday night after it was struck by lightning around 6:30 p.m.
The homeowner was home at the time of the lightning strike at the Crossings Boulevard residence, according to Bluffton Township Fire District Capt. Randy Hunter. The man was able to escape the home unharmed and no other injuries were reported.
Fire crews were at the scene for approximately two and a half hours and stayed late into the night to ensure the home would not rekindle, Hunter said.
The fire was reported shortly after an electrical fire at a Bluffton business off Buck Island Road late Wednesday afternoon.
That fire happened at 12 Arley Way shortly before 5:30 p.m. and may have also been the result of a lightning strike as storms moved through the area, Hunter said. No injuries were reported.
