A report filed with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Department indicates a door might have been left open at an office owned by the Town of Hilton Head Island.
An employee of the town’s finance department told deputies she found the front door of the office open when she came to work Thursday morning, according to the report.
She said she went inside after waiting a few minutes for someone to come out and saw that nothing was disturbed or missing. All laptops and computers on the desks were accounted for and she said the drawers did not appear to have been opened and rummaged through.
The employee said she believed the cleaning company hired for the office might have accidentally left the door unlocked or didn’t close it all the way, but wanted to make a report “due to the fact the office deals with finances for different departments on Hilton Head and personal information.”
