The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating an early morning larceny that resulted in a shooting in the Dale area.
According to the sheriff’s office news release, deputies responded to the scene in the Wimbee Creek area around 5 a.m. Saturday morning where a man reported that two black males in a silver Dodge truck stole his log splitter.
The man told officers that he chased the suspects as they were leaving, then both the man and the two suspects began shooting at each other, according to the police report.
The man was able to make contact with the suspects near Big Estates Road on Highway 17, according to the sheriff’s office report. He was able to retrieve his stolen property at gun point. The suspects then fled in the area of Big Estates Road.
