Capt. Todd Malphrus of the Bluffton Township Fire District worked his last shift as Engine Company Captain on Wednesday and stepped into retirement.
“We are grateful and appreciative of Todd’s 30 years of service to our community,” a fire district release said.
Malphrus began working for the district as a volunteer in 1986 and was officially hired in 1988.
His first assignment was to shift 2 at old Station 30, the release said.
Never miss a local story.
From there, Malphrus rose in the ranks and ultimately served the district as a Battalion Chief before spending the twilight of his career as Engine Company Captain.
“Stick with it,” Malphrus said as his advice to new firefighters. “Every day is not going to be a great day, but the rewards will come.”
“Although we will all miss Todd, he has worked hard all of his career and has earned the opportunity to enjoy more time with his wife Marian and their four children and seven grandchildren,” the release said.
