Christopher Allan Saari-Poulter, a graduate of Hilton Head Island High School, has completed basic army training for the Royal School of Artillery near Salisbury, England.
He will continue the 13-week fitness training while learning to operate and fire weapons systems, navigate and read maps, among other advanced training. When he completes the course, he will be posted to an operational battalion, most likely in Afghanistan, according to a news release.
All personnel have to qualify and pass the 16-week command course, which culminates in five consecutive days of physical tests. After that, each soldier is awarded the Green Beret to wear his entire military career, no matter what unit he may transfer to within the British Army, as a mark of honor. He was also invited to apply for the Airborne Artillery and the 95 FOU Battery.
He is the son of Brenda Saari and Allan Poulter of Hilton Head Island.
