A jet fighter squadron based at Marine Air Station Beaufort on Wednesday deployed to the western Pacific.
Marine Fighter Squadron 115, known as the Silver Eagles, deployed as part of a scheduled program. The squadron includes 12 jets and about 200 support personnel. The deployment will last for six months.
“The Marines seek balanced strategic capabilities in the Pacific theater so we can train with allies, respond to crises and promote security cooperation across the region,” a press release said. “The squadron and their jets will support multinational exercises to improve our ability to work well with our allies and expose our Marines to various training environments.”
The squadron flies F/A-18C Hornet jets and conducts joint and combined aviation operations to support Marines on the ground.
