The third annual Wounded Heroes Golf Classic in May raised $93,000 in donations, it was announced Monday.
The event, hosted by the Lowcountry Foundation for Wounded Military Heroes at Hampton Hall in Bluffton, raises money for severely wounded and disabled Lowcountry veterans.
The group partners with Birdies for the Brave, operated by the PGA Tour. Proceeds from this year's tournament will go to the Military Warriors Support Foundation, Operation Homefront and Special Operations Warrior Foundation.
The Military Warriors Support Foundation provided mortgage-free homes to two military families with the tournament's donation, a news release said. In addition, the foundation donated a motorized wheelchair to a wounded veteran, as well as a solo-rider golf cart to The Legends Golf Course at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island.
Over three years, the Wounded Heroes Golf Classic has raised a total of $200,000 to support programs and services for wounded veterans in South Carolina and coastal Georgia, according to the release.
