Marines with the Marine Wing Support Squadron 273 at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort work on breaking apart an old cement foundation uncovered by beach erosion Monday morning near the lighthouse at Hunting Island State Park.
The project started after Friends of Hunting Island and Carol A. Murphy, recycling coordinator for Beaufort County, contacted the Marines at MCAS Beaufort, according to Hunting Island State Park manager Daniel Gambrell.
The weeklong cleanup will also act as a training opportunity for members of MWWS 273.
"We're getting to use some equipment that we don't get to use a whole lot in the states," said Sgt. James Raney.
