A pair of dogs killed more than a dozen chickens on Lady's Island on Sunday, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report.
A resident of Alston Road told deputies she checked on her secured chicken coop about 9:30 p.m. and found a black Labrador retriever outside and a small white mixed-breed dog inside the coop, the report said. All 21 chickens, about a month old, were dead, she told officers.
The dogs reportedly broke through the chicken wire at the bottom of the coop, which was part of a school project for the woman's son, the report said.
The deputy searched for the dogs, but did not locate them. The incident remains under investigation.
