A Maryland man was arrested Friday on Lady's Island on an outstanding warrant for armed robbery in his home state, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
David Christopher Ball, 27, of Windsor, Md., told Beaufort County Sheriff's deputies responding to a call of a suspicious vehicle at McDonald's on Sea Island Parkway that his name was "Sylvester Scott," according to an incident report. Deputies saw a machete in the car near Ball's legs.
Deputies found Ball's driver's license after a search of the car, and a check of the FBI's National Crime Information Center returned that Ball was wanted for armed robbery in Maryland. A woman in the car with Ball confirmed to deputies his identity.
Ball tried to run as he was being placed in a Beaufort County Sheriff's car and was taken down by deputies, according to the report. He was arrested and charged as a fugitive from justice and with giving false information to law enforcement.
He was booked at Beaufort County Detention Center and remains in jail, according to the center's jail log.
