A Lady's Island woman who suffered life-threatening burns during an apartment fire early Tuesday remained in critical condition Wednesday evening, according to a family friend.
Christina Ryan is on ventilator and began dialysis Wednesday at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Ga., according to Beaufort County Councilman Brian Flewelling, a family friend.
Ryan has not regain consciousness since the incident and was put in a medically induced coma to make sure she did not feel pain, Flewelling said.
Ryan was rescued from her Tabby Oaks apartment just before 3 a.m. on Tuesday by two neighbors, Marc Buford and Mike Conrad.

Ryan was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital and flown to the burn center later Tuesday morning.
Flewelling said Ryan's family and friends are grateful for Buford and Conrad's heroic act.
"They put us in a position where we can try and save her life," Flewelling said. "Without them, there'd be no hope."
