One person was killed and two others injured late Saturday in a one-vehicle accident in Burton, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
The vehicle wrecked about 8:25 p.m. on Trask Parkway near Shanklin Road, overturning and ejecting three occupants, according to the Burton Fire District. One of the occupants, 44-year-old Troy Jenkins of Beaufort, was pronounced dead at the scene, Beaufort County Deputy Coroner David Ott said.
An autopsy will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston to determine the cause of death, he said.
Two other occupants suffered life-threatening injuries, Burton Fire District spokesman Dan Byrne said. One victim was flown to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah and one was taken by ambulance to Beaufort Memorial Hospital, he said.
Their names and conditions were not available Saturday evening, Ott said. It was not immediately clear who was driving the car, and none of the occupants appeared to have been wearing seat belts, he said.
Both northbound lanes of Trask Parkway were blocked for at least two hours following the incident, Byrne said.
Additional details were not avaialble from the South Carolina Highway Patrol, which is investigating the wreck.
