A Beaufort man accused of breaking into a gun store Saturday was also arrested on two warrants for criminal sexual conduct with a minor, according to the Beaufort Police Department.
Christopher Alex Mitchell Jr., 21, had consensual sex with a 15-year-old girl on April 16 and on May 9, police Cpl. Hope Able said Monday. The victim's mother reported the alleged incidents June 27, and a warrant was issued for Mitchell's arrest.
On Saturday, officers responded to an activated alarm at Onsite Gun Works, 129 Burton Hill Road in Beaufort, according to a police report. Officers found a side door slightly ajar with pry marks on it, the report said. They stopped a sedan leaving an adjacent parking lot and charged Mitchell and Beaufort resident Markese Singleton Jr. with burglary, attempted burglary, criminal conspiracy and possession of burglary tools.
Singleton and Mitchell are being held for prosecution at the Beaufort County Detention Center, with their bonds set at $55,000, according to the jail log. Bond had not been set Monday for Mitchell on the two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
