Several first-responder groups participated in a large-scale airport emergency exercise at Hilton Head Island Airport on March 25, 2014. Airports must perform such exercises every three years to be certified by the Federal Aviation Administration. The first responders included personnel from the Hilton Head Island Airport Fire Department, Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue Division, Hilton Head Hospital, Beaufort County Sheriff's Office, Beaufort County Coroner's Office and the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.
