An 18-year-old was charged with safecracking Monday after he broke into a relative's safe and stole money, according to a Beaufort Police Department spokeswoman.
James Sturgeon forcibly removed the door of the safe Monday at a relative's home on Battery Creek Drive and stole an undisclosed amount of money inside, Cpl. Hope Able said. Sturgeon was a guest in the home and had prior knowledge of the safe, Able said.
Sturgeon was charged with safecracking and grand larceny. He was taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center, where he was being held Tuesday, with bail set at $25,000, according to the jail log.
