A third man was charged Monday with armed robbery in the theft of an ATV last month in Burton, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.
Steven White Jr., 18, of Beaufort was charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime for his role in the Jan. 21 robbery that authorities say also included two other teenagers, Sgt. Robin McIntosh said.
White allegedly drove off with the ATV during a test drive with the owner after an accomplice, Byron Habersham, 18, of Beaufort, pointed a handgun and ordered them to stop, the Sheriff's Office said. White drove off after the owner got off the vehicle to subdue the gunman, a report said.
Habersham and Andrew Grober, 16, of Burton, also face charges in connection with the incident. Habersham is charged faces charges of armed robbery with a deadly weapon, first-degree assault and battery, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. Grober faces an armed robbery charge.
White and Grober were in the Beaufort County Detention Center on Tuesday, with bonds set at $75,000 each, and Habersham was being held for prosecution without bond.
McIntosh said the ATV was recovered.
