A Burton teenager was charged Friday with armed robbery in the theft of an ATV last month, according to court records.
Andrew Lee Grober, 16, set up a meeting that took place Jan. 21 between the owner of the ATV and a prospective buyer, Sgt. Robin McIntosh of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office said.
At about 4:30 p.m. in the woods between Churchdale Road and Burton Wells Park, the owner was on a test drive with the prospective buyer when a man pulled a handgun and stopped them, McIntosh said.
The ATV owner struck the suspect several times and disarmed him, McIntosh said. Byron Habersham, 19, of Beaufort was reportedly transported to the hospital for medical attention and was charged Monday with armed robbery with a deadly weapon, first-degree assault and battery, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
He was being held Friday at the Beaufort County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
Habersham was also arrested in April on charges of first-degree assault and battery and pointing and presenting a firearm at a person, according to court records. That case is pending.
Grober was also being held Friday with bond set at $75,000.
The man on the test drive rode off with the ATV during the robbery. His arrest is pending and the vehicle has been recovered, McIntosh said.
