Several events are planned this weekend in Beaufort County to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Committee is sponsoring a banquet at 6 p.m. Saturday at Campbell Chapel AME Church, 25 Boundary St. Louis L. Mitchell will speak. The Campbell Chapel dance team, Jabari Gordon and Patrick Treacy III will perform. Door prizes will be offered. A donation of $35 or $12.50 for children under 12 is requested. A memorial service will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Theodore Washington Municipal Building at 20 Bridge St., followed by a march through Old Town. A cookout will follow the march.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND
A memorial march will begin at 10 a.m. Monday in the Hilton Head Island High School parking lot as part of the 2014 Hilton Head Island MLK Jr. Memorial Celebration.
A memorial program will follow from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the school's Seahawk Cultural Center. The annual MLK Community Service Award will be presented. A free community lunch will be in the school cafeteria. There will be a screening at 7 p.m. of a civil rights video in the parish hall at All Saints Episcopal Church.
All events are free, and canned goods will be collected for the Sandalwood Food Pantry at every event. Details: 843-681-3881
NORTHERN BEAUFORT COUNTY
The Beaufort County Ministerial Alliance will hold its annual banquet at 6 p.m. Saturday at Beaufort Elementary School as part of its Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration. The MLK Humanitarian Award will be presented at the banquet.
The annual parade will be at 10 a.m. Monday, starting on Rodgers Street. The closing program will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the University of South Carolina Beaufort.
