A brush fire in Seabrook that destroyed two mobile homes Thursday was the third in the area in less than a week, a Burton Fire District spokesman said.
Firefighters were called to a lot across Detour Road from Whale Branch Early College High School at about 1:53 p.m. after the fire spread to two vacant mobile homes, Burton paramedic Daniel Byrne said.
Last Friday, a fire in an unoccupied home in the Seabrook Point neighborhood was discovered by a neighbor at about 11 p.m. The fire, about two miles from the site of Thursday's fire, required 36,000 gallons of water to be trucked into the neighborhood. The home was destroyed.
On Tuesday, a 7-year-old student lit a fire in a bathroom in Whale Branch Elementary School on Stuart Point Road, leading to a two-hour evacuation of the school while firefighters put out the fire and aired smoke from the school.
Never miss a local story.
The Burton Fire District, Beaufort-Port Royal Fire Department, Parris Island Fire Department, Beaufort County EMS, and Beaufort County Sheriff's Office all responded to Thursday's fire, Byrne said.
