Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority and the Hilton Head Public Service District will temporarily change drinking water treatment methods later this month, and this could lead to a change in the color and taste of water.
The change is being made in order to flush water lines throughout the service area over a three week period starting Oct. 26, and is part of a routine maintenance program, according to a Wednesday press release.
There will be no interruption of service as a result of the work.
Customers may notice a slight chlorine taste and odor affecting tap water beginning Oct. 26 and continuing through Nov. 13. Customers may also notice water discoloration.
Never miss a local story.
According to the press release, if water appears discolored, customers should run cold water for several minutes.
If discoloration persists, customers may contact the Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority at 843-987-9200 or the Hilton Head Public Service District at 843-681-5525.
