A 20-year-old Beaufort man has been charged with attempted murder for his role in a robbery attempt in which shots were fired.
Quinton Ventress, 20, is accused of holding a man at gunpoint and attempting to rob him in the area of Spanish Trace Apartments about 1 p.m. Oct. 3. Authorities say he was helped by another suspect, who remains at large.
The victim, police said, struggled with Ventress and his accomplice before running away.
The victim reported hearing a gunshot after breaking free. It is not clear, police said, whether Ventress or his accomplice shot at the victim or in the air. The victim was not injured.
Ventress was arrested about 2:30 p.m. Thursday by the Beaufort Police Department, according to the Beaufort County Detention Center log.
Along with attempted murder, Ventress was charged with armed robbery, possession of a firearm or knife with intent to commit a violent crime, and possession of crack cocaine, which was discovered in his pocket during the arrest, police said.
His bail was set at $100,000 on the charge of attempted murder and $50,000 on both the count of armed robbery and weapons possession. He remains in custody.
