A 26-year-old Beaufort man was charged with murder Monday in connection with the 2009 shooting death of a Seabrook man.
Jeremy Levon Murphy was arrested Thursday in Jasper County on unrelated charges, then was handed over to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office on Monday. He is being held in the Beaufort County Detention Center pending a bond hearing, according to the jail log.
Ronald Rodney Coleman Jr., 27, was killed outside his home in Seabrook on June 22, 2009, according to Beaufort County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Robin McIntosh.
Two suspects fled in a mid- to late-1990s Cadillac following what seemed to be a gunfight between the victim and two men, authorities said. At the time, McIntosh said robbery was considered a possible motive in the killing. She would not say Tuesday what linked Murphy to the crime.

On Nov. 10, 2011, the Sheriff's Office extradited a 36-year-old Florida man to Beaufort County after DNA evidence linked him to the murder.
The test matched the blood of Antonio Eugene Collins of Miami with bloodstains found at the crime scene, authorities say. Collins is scheduled to go on trail on the murder charge in about two weeks, according to Daniel Brownstein, spokesman for the 14th Circuit Solicitor's Office. Jury selection is scheduled to begin Oct. 21, and opening statements will be Oct. 22.
