A 42-year-old St. Helena Island man was kidnapped Monday, stuffed in a car trunk and later shot several times in the feet, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office news release.
Melesse Orlando Turner, 22, of Doraville, Ga., is being sought on charges of kidnapping and attempted murder.
Deputies found the victim at 5:30 p.m. Monday near Deacon Heyward Road, suffering from several gunshot wounds to the feet.
The man said Turner, whom he knew by the nickname "Poppy," and a woman asked him to go with them to St. Helena while he was at a house on Harrington Street in Beaufort.

Sgt. Robin McIntosh said the woman with Turner has not been identified yet.
While the three were driving on Seaside Road, Turner and the woman attacked the man, binding him with duct tape and putting him in the trunk of their Toyota Camry, the release said.
Turner brought the man to a house along the road, pistol-whipped him and shot him several times in the feet, according to the release.
It is not yet clear why Turner or the woman took the victim to that particular house, McIntosh said.
After Turner and the woman left, the man was able to go to a house on Deacon Heyward Road, where residents called authorities.
The man told investigators the attack might have been retaliation for an altercation in Atlanta between Turner and the man's son.
Turner should be considered armed and dangerous, the release said. He may be traveling in a white 1992 Toyota Camry LE with Georgia license plate PNG2165.
The victim was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital; his condition was not released.
