Construction has begun on a new Chevrolet dealership that should open in Hardeeville by mid-January.
Workers have cleared trees and are beginning to pave the 10-and-a-half acre lot, said Mike Reichenbach, who purchased the land for $2.45 million last September.
Reichenbach's dealership will sit along U.S. 278, next to O.C. Welch Ford Lincoln and near the New River Auto Mall.
"I think there will be healthy competition," Reichenbach said. "Dealers like to group -- it helps consumers shop."
He said the dealership will have 100 new Chevrolets and 100 used cars and trucks of all makes and models for sale.
Reichenbach also owns and operates Mike Reichenbach Ford Lincoln Inc. in Florence.
"Gone are the days when dealers force feed one particular make," he said. "Car dealers are becoming more consultants than sellers."
Reichenbach recently closed on a Volkswagen dealership in Florence, where he'll open a temporary facility in October and has plans to build a permanent facility within a year.
