A City of Beaufort police officer was struck and injured by a vehicle while clearing an earlier multi-vehicle accident on Boundary Street late Friday.
Sgt. Chris Cushman, 45, was struck just after 9 p.m. and taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital for treatment. A hospital spokesman could not provide information on his condition.
Cushman was struck by a 1998 Mustang driven Jamel Brown, 30, whose hometown was unavailable late Friday.
No charges had been filed, according to Sgt. Bob Beres of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Never miss a local story.
Brown, who was wearing a seat belt and was alone in the car, was driving north on Boundary when he struck the officer, Beres said. Cushman was in the roadway working the earlier crash. No additional information was available on the earlier accident.
The Highway Patrol's Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team is handling the investigation, Beres said.
