A man accused of taking a wallet from a grocery shopping cart Monday turned himself in.
Forrest Eugene Tucker, 57, has been charged with strong arm robbery. Tucker was identified as the man who had taken a wallet from a woman's purse as it sat in a shopping cart at a Burton grocery story, according to a news release from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
The 79-year-old woman said that an unknown black man approached her cart when she was in the meat department. The man tried to snatch her purse, but couldn't because it was strapped into the front seat of the cart.
The man took her wallet from the purse and ran from the store. Customers who saw the robbery chased him, and saw him drive away in a bronze Toyota Highlander. They took down the license plate number and gave it to Beaufort County Sheriff's deputies.
Deputies searched for the vehicle, but did not find it. Video surveillance footage was used to identify Tucker.
Tucker was taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center, where he will remain pending a bond hearing, according to the release.
