A 23-year-old Hilton Head Island man was arrested Tuesday after he sent lewd messages and photos to girls ages to 12 to 14 over Facebook, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Dionicio Gomez was charged with four counts of disseminating obscene materials to a minor after he sent friend requests to several local girls using two fake names, "Alex Maginnis" and "Diony Gomez," according to a news release. Gomez's messages included explicit language, graphic photos, and references to sexual activity and illegal drugs.
Eventually, his messages began to include illicit photos and requests for pictures of the girls, according to the release. Once they began to receive those messages, the girls told their parents, who notified law enforcement.
Gomez, a Mexican native, is being held without bail at the Beaufort County Detention Center, according to the jail log.
The Sheriff's Office, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are trying to determine whether Gomez contacted other girls to solicit photos, which could lead to more charges, according to the release.
Anyone with information about the case can call investigators at 843-255-3511 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-274-6372.
