A boating-safety class conducted by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 16 at the Hilton Head Public Service District community room on Oak Park Drive.
The course will include navigation, safety equipment, dealing with boating problems and emergencies, and legal requirements for boating in South Carolina.
The course is certified by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources, and graduates will receive a state boater-education card. Many insurance companies offer discounts to graduates, according to a Coast Guard news release.
In South Carolina, boaters under age 16 are required to pass a boater-education course. Students under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
The course costs $25 a person or $40 for two family members sharing the same boating manual. Class size is limited.
