The town of Bluffton is offering a directional-sign program to accommodate Old Town businesses that have requested ways to advertise without violating the sign ordinance.
Bluffton relaxed its rules on temporary business signs in 2009 to help shops struggling in the economic downturn. But in August, it again began enforcing its rules, which ban some signs outright and require a permit for others.
The town will place and maintain sign panels at various locations in and around the historic district.
The program is available to businesses that have a current business license and no outstanding code violations. The initial cost is $250 per business.
