Two teens were arrested Tuesday on charges of stealing about $100 in cigarettes and money from unlocked cars on Royal Oaks Street.
The Beaufort Police Department responded to a report of two 17-year-old males opening unlocked cars just after midnight, according to Chief Matt Clancy. The teens ran when officers arrived. Beaufort County Sheriff's Office tracking dogs found them hiding in a backyard a short time later.
The teens, one of whom lives in Beaufort and the other on Lady's Island, were charged with one count each of breaking into motor vehicles, according to court records. Both remained in the Beaufort County Detention Center as of Wednesday with bail set at $20,000, according to the jail log.
