David Adams of Fortress Systems Inc. installs one of three cameras on a school bus Wednesday at Robert Smalls Middle School. Each of the 178 buses that service the Beaufort County School District -- including activity and special-needs buses -- will be equipped by the end of the year with three high-definition cameras to monitor activity in an attempt to prevent bullying. The footage will be stored on a hard drive mounted near the driver's seat. The hard drives can store several weeks' worth of surveillance. The Board of Education voted unanimously last month to install the cameras. Fortress Systems was awarded the $257,000 contract from among a group of four bidders, according to district spokesman Jim Foster.
