Sean Thornton, deputy solicitor of the 14th Circuit Solicitor's Office, won a statewide award for outstanding prosecution in General Sessions Court at this week's annual Solicitor's Conference in Myrtle Beach.
Thornton, 41, received the 2012 Ernest F. Hollings Award for Excellence in State Prosecution, presented by U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles, according to a Solicitor's Office news release.
Thornton manages dozens of employees in the five counties of the 14th Circuit, including Beaufort County, and also prosecutes some of the office's most difficult cases as the senior attorney on the Career Criminal Prosecution Team, the release said.
"Some prosecutors are excellent administrators and some are great trial lawyers," said Solicitor Duffie Stone. "Sean Thornton is both."
