Officials at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort are again offering local artists and graphic designers a chance to be a part of the base's air show and help publicize the biennial event.
Marine Corps Community Services has announced the return of a contest to design the poster for the 2013 Beaufort Air Show, set for April 27-28. The winning design might also be featured on T-shirts, event programs, direct-mail advertisements and other promotional materials, according to organizers.
Entries will be judged on how well they incorporate this year's theme, "Blues Over Beaufort," a reference to the Blue Angels, formally known as the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, which will again headline the air show, organizers said.
"(Judges are looking for) a design that captures the thrill, emotion, excitement and drama of the air show's sights and sounds," said MCCS marketing director Jennifer Moneagle. "Originality, creativity and a sense of movement are also key."

The entry deadline is Oct. 8, and winners will be announced on the air show's website by Oct. 31, according to organizers.
Moneagle said the design contest plays an important role in organizers' plans to involve the community in the air show, which is held every other year and typically draws more than 100,000 people.
"We were thrilled with the caliber and originality expressed in the entries for the last contest and are looking forward to receiving this year's submissions," Moneagle said.
The winning designer will receive $500 and a ticket package for the air show, organizers said.
