SAVANNAH - A female body bearing the identification of a Sun City Hilton Head woman who vanished April 26 was found in the missing woman's car in a parking structure at the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport Wednesday afternoon, according to Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police.
The body was found with the identification and belongings of 40-year-old Caroline Gibson but police will not have a "true positive" on the identity until an autopsy is performed, said public information officer Gena Sullivan.
Sullivan said the car in which the body was found was Gibson's and had been parked at the airport since April 27, a day after she was reported missing by her parents with whom she lived in Sun City.
A person who parked in economy parking section on the second deck reported the body to police Wednesday afternoon. An autopsy is under way at the Georgia Bureau of Investigations crime lab, Sullivan said.
The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office has said foul play was not suspected in Gibson's disappearance. Sullivan said no cause of death has been established.
The Sheriff's Office had been searching for Gibson since her parents reported her missing and found no trace of her in searches by ground, water and air in Beaufort and Jasper counties.
