Hope Haven of the Lowcountry will sponsor a "Take Back the Night" community event Friday featuring stories of hope and healing told by survivors of child abuse and sexual violence.
The event also will feature slam poetry written and performed by local middle- and high-school boys who participate in the LOUD youth-development program and in the Men of Strength Club, a nationally recognized violence-prevention program facilitated by Hope Haven, according to a news release.
Duffie Stone, 14th Judicial Circuit solicitor, will give the opening address at the event, which begins at 7 p.m. outside Hope Haven at 69 Robert Smalls Parkway in Beaufort.
The event is free and open to the public. Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. A lighting ceremony recognizing 466 survivors helped in 2011 at Hope Haven will be held at the end of the event.
Never miss a local story.
