Hilton Head Island's Fire & Rescue Division will collect hazardous household waste from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at its headquarters on Summit Drive.
Since 2005, the division has collected more than 5,000 pounds of hazardous material and electronic waste. About 92 percent of it has been recycled or reclaimed.
Firefighters will collect paints, poisons, pesticides, cleaners, batteries and tires. Electronics including computers, copiers, printers, microwave ovens, radios, VCRs, cellphones, televisions and smoke detectors also will be collected.
The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office also will be on hand to collect and property dispose of prescription drugs.
