Hilton Head Island's Jim Ferree and playing partner Miller Barber shot a 5-under 67 Monday morning, good enough for 10th place in the Demaret Division of the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf at Savannah Harbor Golf Resort in Savannah Ga.
Mike Hill and Lee Trevino are leading the 36-hole, better-ball team event after an 11-under score of 61. Frank Beard and Larry Ziegler are two strokes back at 63, while Bibby Gilbert and J.C. Snead are two off the pace at 64.
The leaders will tee off at 8:30 this morning, while Ferree's group will take to the course at 9:10 a.m.
The Demaret Division is down to 18 teams after four teams withdrew Monday morning. The teams of Charlie Sifford and Lee Elder, Bob Toski and Jack Fleck, Howie Johnson and Fred Hawkins and Doug Sanders and Al Besselink did not tee it up.
The Southern Company Pro-Am will be held Wednesday and Thursday, while the Raphael and Legends divisions begin play Friday. The Raphael Division concludes Saturday, while the Legends Division, the points-earning Champions Tour division, will conclude Sunday.
Free admission will be offered for the week to active duty, retired, and reserve military personnel and their dependents. Tickets may be downloaded in advanced by visiting birdiesforthebrave.org. Military members may also present their government issued identification card at the gate in exchange for a grounds ticket.
All youths younger than 18 will be admitted free with a ticket-holding adult.
