A 45-year-old Shell Point woman was arrested Sunday for shooting the wall of her home on Hickory Street, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
The woman was charged with one misdemeanor count of shooting under the influence. Witnesses said the incident started when the woman's sister casually mentioned that the suspect's ex-husband was visiting family in Pennsylvania over the holiday weekend, the report said. The two were recently divorced, according to authorities.
The report said the woman became upset, went into her bedroom and fired five rounds from a .38-caliber pistol into the wall. No injuries were reported.
The woman told deputies she fired the gun because she couldn't get the "thingy" back after loading the weapon, authorities said. The report did not specify the part of the gun to which she referred.
Deputies noted that the woman's speech was slurred and her breath smelled of alcohol. Her blood-alcohol content was later measured at .10, an incident report said. The legal limit for drivers in South Carolina is .08.
The woman was released Monday from the Beaufort County Detention Center on her own recognizance, according to the jail log.
She faces a $2,000 fine or up to two years in prison, if convicted.
