A Bluffton Middle School student was hit by a car Thursday morning near her bus stop and hospitalized in Savannah.
The seventh-grader was struck at 6:25 a.m. near the intersection of May River Road and Haigler Boulevard.
Cpl. Bob Beres of the S.C. Highway Patrol said the student was in the road when the accident occurred. He also said it was dark at the time and the student was wearing dark clothing.
The car, a 2009 Toyota, was driven by a 51-year-old man who was not injured.
The 12-year-old student was airlifted to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah.
Bluffton Middle School principal Dereck Rhoads said her knee is broken, but no other injuries were reported.
The Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation, Beres said.
