A motorcyclist was transported to Beaufort Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries after a collision with a pickup Friday near the foot of the Broad River Bridge.
Firefighters from the Burton Fire District and Beaufort County paramedics were called at about 7:40 p.m. to the intersection of Robert Smalls Parkway and Savannah Highway after reports of a collision between a motorcycle and the truck, said Dan Byrne, fire district spokesman.
The driver of the pickup was not injured, Byrne said. An update on the motorcyclist's condition was unavailable Friday night.
Two eastbound lanes of Robert Smalls Parkway were closed for about 40 minutes while emergency crews tended to the injured rider and cleared the roadway, he said.

Byrne said the collision occurred less than 10 minutes before another wreck on Trask Parkway near Whale Branch Early Collegiate High School between an SUV and a sedan.
The driver of the sedan had to be cut free from the wreck, Byrne said.
Byrne said both drivers were transported to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.
Two lanes of Trask Parkway were closed for about 30 minutes, according to authorities.
