With three days into the filing period for the June 12 state primary, at least three candidates have surfaced for the S.C. House of Representatives District 120 seat, more than any other race in the county so far.
Republican Laura Sterling filed for the seat Friday, joining Beaufort County Council Chairman Weston Newton and County Councilman Jerry Stewart.
It's not clear if candidates have filed in the Democrats' primary; attempts Friday and Monday to reach that party's filing official, Fred Kuhn Jr., were unsuccessful.
District 120 shifted to Beaufort County when district lines were redrawn as a result of population growth shown by the 2010 census. Rep. Bill Bowers, D-Hampton, currently holds the office but was carved out of the district.
