Richard Phillips, the merchant marine captain of the Maersk Alabama who was held captive by Somali pirates in April 2009, will speak about his ordeal from 10 to 11:30 a.m. March 3 at Hilton Head Island High School's Visual and Performing Arts Center, 70 Wilborn Road.
The public is invited to hear about the episode, which ended in a rescue by U.S. Navy SEALs and the death of all the captors.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by calling the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of South Carolina Beaufort at 843-208-8247. Tickets also will be available at the door.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
