Loose change and crumpled dollar bills account for most of the loot stolen in a string of car break-ins in Bluffton neighborhoods this month.
In one instance, however, the thief made off with more than just a few stray coins.
One of the unlocked cars broken into in the Baywood neighborhood contained $2,098 in uncirculated U.S. Morgan silver dollars, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report.
The victim, a rare-coin collector, had recently picked up the coins from his bank, he told deputies. They were insured, according to the report.

Prescription medication and his wife's wedding band, which had been left in the center console after a recent repair, also were stolen.
Thieves took change, GPS units, other small electronics and a gun this month after breaking into more than 100 unlocked cars in Bluffton. The investigation into the crimes continues, police say.
