Hilton Head Christian Academy kindergartner Mallory Gilmore constructs a Valentine’s Day card on Friday. She and her classmates delivered the cards to residents at the nearby Indigo Pines retirement community Saturday. The project was part of a new lower-school character education initiative called “The Bolt.” The goal is to use fundamental values in real life. Earlier in the year, for example, the students learned to display kindness by making polite greetings and conversation. This month, they are examining what it means to have a grateful heart and to give without return.
