The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is searching for a Bluffton man wanted for forgery.
Ted Delamarie Ellis, 32, is accused of cashing a counterfeit check at a local bank.
Destiny Adult Family Homes, an assisted-living community, contacted deputies last week about a counterfeit check that had been drawn on a business account, according to the Sheriff's Office. The owners said an employee of a title-lending business told them several of Destiny's checks had been recovered from a repossessed vehicle. The checks appeared to have duplicate numbers and were all made payable to Ellis for the same amount on the same date, according to a news release.
One counterfeit check had been issued and cashed for more than $1,500 at S.C. Bank & Trust in Bluffton. Ellis cashed that check, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Never miss a local story.
Ellis' last known address is on Mill Street in Bluffton.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call Investigator Cpl. J. Garcia at 843-255-3412 or county dispatch at 843-524-2777.
