Libby Holloway and Sharon Stewart hung a sign announcing 808 Bay St. is the home of Antiques and Such, but owners of the new antique shop in downtown Beaufort won't change the name on the building.
"We asked (building owner 303 Associates) if we could leave it up because so many people know this as Bay Street Trading Company," Holloway said. "... What kind of antiques store would we be if we didn't honor Beaufort's traditions."
Stewart is the wife of 303 Associates Managing Partner Dick Stewart.
The pair moved their antiques business from 1600 Burnside St., Beaufort Town Center, over the Christmas holiday and opened the first week of January. Bay Street Trading Company, a bookstore, closed in 2010.
Never miss a local story.
In addition to the name, the owners are using the store's old bookshelves.
Antiques and Such started as a consignment store a year and a half ago to help friends and families downsize and sell items. The new location should provide a new customer base, Holloway said.
The store will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
