Learn about colonial life in the Lowcountry at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Heritage Library on Hilton Head Island.
Bill Altstaetter will describe how cattle ranching began in the area and gave rise to customs that later became part of Western lore. Altstaetter will also discuss how planters became wealthy raising indigo or Sea Island cotton and how Beaufort County became synonymous with culture and elegance, according to the library.
The cost is $8 for members and $10 for nonmembers; discounts for couples.
