A scuffle on Hilton Head Island between two brothers has sent one to the emergency room with stab wounds and the other to jail for attempted murder.
John Sexton, 31, of Bluffton is accused of stabbing his 33-year-old brother, Dennis Sexton Jr., during an argument Wednesday in the parking lot of a paint store on William Hilton Parkway, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies found out about the incident from emergency room staff at Hilton Head Hospital after Dennis Sexton was dropped off by his mother.
The brothers began arguing while riding from Bluffton to Hilton Head in a car driven by their mother, Mary Jane Sexton. When the argument escalated, Mary Jane Sexton pulled into the parking lot, where the men got out to fight.
Dennis Sexton was then stabbed in the chest and back, according to the deputies' report.
John Sexton ran away, then called his wife, who came to pick him up, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.
Mary Jane Sexton dropped off her wounded son at the emergency room, then picked up her other son at his apartment in Bluffton and took to her home in Westbury Park.
Deputies collected evidence from both residences and the crime scene, then arrested John Sexton, according to the release. He is charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. He has been released on his own recognizance, according the Beaufort County Detention Center log.
Dennis Sexton is in critical but stable condition, according to the release.
