Barefoot Bubba's is moving down Bay Street into the Lipsitz Shoes building at the corner of West Street, according to owners Tony and Eddie Yahav.
Lipsitz Shoes closed in February after occupying the space at 828 Bay St. since 1998.
Breezy Veranda LLC, which is registered under James S. Quarforth of Beaufort, recently purchased the building. The Yahavs confirmed they will rent the space and are renovating the interior, including ripping out carpet and installing hardwood floor. They will be moving from 722 Bay St., which is about half the size of the new store, Eddie Yahav said.
"We think the Beaufort people deserve a flagship store and something nice in this area," he said.
The brothers have another Barefoot Bubba's, at 2135 Sea Island Parkway on St. Helena Island, and opened Frogmore Outfitters at 808 Sea Island Parkway in June. The original Barefoot Bubba's started in the 1950s as a hunting camp on St. Helena.
In addition to souvenirs and clothing, the new location will offer bike, kayak and sporting-good rentals. The brothers hope to open the new shop in two weeks. For more information, go to www.barefootbubbas.com.
Other happenings around town:
"My customers have been very loyal, and I really want to find a Merle Norman owner who is very nice," she said. "... I'm only open five days a week, so I really get to know my customers."
The store will remain open indefinitely while Fahey searches for someone to take over.
Dr. Ben and Kirstin Cotter operate the business and moved to Beaufort after he earned his doctorate. For more information, go to www.newspringchiropractic.com.
